My name is Britnee. The Hawaii WARD Project was designed as my Girl Scouts Gold Award Project which I earned as an Ambassador Girl Scout in 2018.
Currently, this website is being maintained by mother, Teresa Nero, in the capacity of a Kauai Veterans Museum Volunteer.
My goal was to honor women who have served our country in the Women’s Air Raid Defense of the Hawaiian Islands during World War II. I completed this project by redesigning the Women Veterans Display and the WARD Display at the Kauai Veterans Museum as well by creating this website on the Hawaii WARD.
When researching for information on Hawaii’s WARD, it was found that not many sources were available. Since my great-grandmother served time in the WARD, this project and website has provided an avenue for me to share the research my mother has done as well as my families memorabilia and photos that have been passed down the generations.
This website dedicated to the history of the WARD in Hawaii definitely benefits our community; nationally and globally. The website displays photos and historical information with the purpose of preserving, collecting and educating a critical part of our history while recognizing the women who served.
